Little Hawks

In honor of the Hawks playing tonight, I thought I'd post a pic I took the day of their first preseason game.  The kiddos in their Hawks gear (thanks Nana & Papa for the goods). :)

I seriously took 50 pictures trying to get one of both of them looking at me.  This is the best I got... for some reason, Jackson doesn't like to look at the camera.

Beauty

I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful valley.  I have to say I didn't really appreciate living in Eastern Washington until I moved to Seattle to attend college.  Now there is not a day that goes by that I don't notice how beautiful the Wenatchee Valley is.  There are times that I want to pull my car over while driving just to take a picture of the beauty I see out my windshield (and if I didn't always have the kids with me, I probably would).

Sunday morning, I set my alarm for 4:45am and drug myself out of bed for a sunrise hike up Saddlerock.  I'm pretty sure BJ thought I was crazy (and maybe I was just a little) but the early wake up was well worth the beauty we saw.  I met up with Mary (MKC Photography Mary) and we took our cameras up the mountain (of course, her pics were far and above better than mine). :)  But, I'm so thankful I did as I now have actual pictures of our beautiful valley and not just iPhone pics.  And... I think it made a little more sense to BJ why I wanted to wake up at the crack of dawn once he saw the pics.

An added bonus... we saw this rainbow on our way down.  Although we did get rained on a little - good thing we had worn extra clothing to hide our cameras.

Four Months

Baby girl... seriously, how am I writing about how you are four months old (and a week late at that)!  You are getting so big so fast and doing a whole new array of things.  This last month has brought some changes as I headed back to work and you started daycare at Deanne's.  I am so happy to say you are thriving with our new routine which is so great for this tired Mama.  From the moment you are picked up until bed time, you are happy go lucky just hanging out while we cram in our nightly routine of dinner, baths, etc.  I am so thankful for your sweet little personality.

You are talking more and more and your new favorite thing... making noises with your lips (you think you're pretty funny as spit is flying everywhere).  Trying to stretch your feet all the way to your mouth is your latest challenge as you so badly want to get them in your mouth. You'd rather stand then sit and this makes me wonder if you'll want to crawl or just skip that step and go straight to walking.  You are still a rock star sleeper and lately when you take your smaller cat naps, you want to be laying on your side.  Spitting up has been more of an issue lately but when I asked the pediatrician about it at your appointment, he said as long as it doesn't bother you it's fine.  So we're keeping your reflux medicine as is.  I love hearing you laugh (and I love that you are laughing more and more).  Last weekend, your Dad was playing peek-a-boo with you and you were belly laughing.  I could have watched the two of you forever.  There is not a better sound.

Your stats at four months:

Height: 25.5 inches - 87%

Weight: 14lbs, 2oz - 48%

Head: 17 in - 97%

Another Year

Our four legged friend turned another year older this past week.  And as usual, we forgot on the actual day but made up for it with lots of pup cups this weekend!

Weekend Getaway

Last weekend was BJ's annual out of town state softball tournament.  So we packed up the troops and headed west over the mountains to the Lacey/Olympia area.  A quick family getaway was just what we needed as we haven't done much of anything since Audri was born. :)  The trip was great.... the kids did awesome despite some LONG days and we managed to mix in some fun with the softball (not that softball's not fun, just more so for BJ than us)!  Here are some highlights/pics from our trip...

Friday afternoon we packed up the car, picked up the kids and headed out.  We timed it just right as Audri had just eaten and was due for a little catnap.  I felt like we literally packed half our house.  It's amazing how much crap traveling with a baby requires.

It was a beautiful day to drive over the passes.  I felt like I could have taken a million pictures.  Snoqualmie was stunning.

After a stop in North Bend for dinner, we were back on the road for the last stretch of the trip.  And, I think we would have been fine other than we hit traffic and little sis just couldn't take the car seat any longer.  So... I spent the last 1/2 hour of the trip holding her hand.

But, we made it and after unloading all our crap we immediately got the kids ready for bed as it was almost 9pm.  And can I just say, sister rocked her first hotel stay.  She slept all night even after sleeping more than normal from the car trip.  I guess when you go into the weekend with low expectations it is easy to exceed them.  Jackson's first hotel trip was a nightmare so I was prepared to stay up all night.  Not this girl...

Saturday morning, we were up and at em early, as in 8am early!  BJ's team had the early game so we were up, fed and dressed at the crack of dawn.  And in true west side fashion, it was really foggy.  So foggy that it was hard to see the outfield from the bleachers.  We think we saw BJ out there!

Audri decided she'd take a little morning nap which was fine by me.  Made for a really easy first game!

In usual Skanger fashion, they lost their first game of the day (seems to happen every year) so we had a long break before their next game at 3pm.  So where did we go... Cabela's of course!

It was our first time in a Cabela's store and man it was awesome.  It was essentially a zoo, just with dead, stuffed animals.  Although they did have some living animals in the aquarium in the middle of the store.  Jackson had a ball, especially because they had an escalator (another one of his favorite things).

After we hung out at Cabela's for a while, we found a Red Robin for lunch.  And since we were on a trip, we let Jackson order a chocolate milkshake.  He sucked it down fast. :)

Post lunch, we headed back to our hotel room to hang out and rest.  My favorite part about rest time, waking up after dosing off for a couple of minutes to find Jackson playing with his toys on the floor telling me "shhh, quiet... Daddy is sleeping."  Sure enough, I look over and BJ is passed out on Jackson's bed. So much for Jackson taking a nap!

The kids and I made it to the next game but by the end, the heat was getting to Audri.  So, we dropped BJ off at the other complex and headed back to the hotel.  We all enjoyed the AC.  Heat in the west side is nothing like heat over here.  85 degrees felt like 100!

After we cooled off and heard from BJ that they were still playing, we headed back to the fields later that evening.  The bleachers were shaded by then which was so nice to not worry about the sun.

It was past this little girl's bed time.

BJ's team ended up losing out late that night which left Sunday wide open.  So we got up, ate breakfast and headed to the pool (BJ had promised Jackson they could go swimming). Side note that cracks me up... on the way to the pool, Jackson told us the carpet in the hallway was camouflaged. :)

After the pool, we loaded up the car and headed up north to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

It was a first for all of us and I have to say it was a pretty cool.  We always seem to pick the hottest days to go to the zoo... even at 10am it was warm. But we trekked around for an hour and a half and checked out the animals.  Jackson's favorite... the sharks!

He also thought the elephants were pretty funny.  One of the elephants was flapping its ears quite loudly.

We let Jackson pick something out in the gift shop.  His choice... a green and yellow snake.  And man is he proud of it!

After the zoo, it was off to North Bend for lunch and some quick shopping.  And when I say quick, I mean quick.  I barely had five minutes in the GAP outlet picking out clothes for Audri before she started having a meltdown.  It was nap time and we needed to get back in the car and head home.

All in all, it was a great weekend.  Jackson did awesome, Audri was a trooper and we squeezed in some much needed family time!

Heat Wave

We had another triple digit weekend so we tried our hardest to stay cool.  That of course, involved water.  BJ had state softball tourny #1 and while we made it to the early game each day, it was too hot to stay at the fields any longer.  So... we played in the back yard.

And little A hung out in the shade which I'm pretty sure was still 85+ degrees.  She did ok for a while although we had to call it a day when her cheeks started to turn pink.  I bribed Jackson with a frozen yogurt date so he would want to come inside. :)
